Gabriel Amatller first made chocolate in 1797 in calle Manresa in Barcelonas Born district. In 1878 Antoni Amatller ordered the construction of a new factory in what was the neighbouring town of St. Martí de Provençals, today part of Barcelonas Poblenou district. Amatller became the leading chocolate manufacturer in Spain at the end of the 19th Century. As part of his major advertising campaigns, he hired the top poster designers of the day, even having a competition in 1914. This poster shows a young boy and girl exchanging a kiss.
